Dad You Are My Rock Star

I had an idea to make a Father’s Day card using another strip of star border I cut out with my Silhouette Cameo. Here is my second version of this morning’s RetroSketch card. You can scroll down to my last post and see my first version. I created the sentiment from the Boob Tubes, Chit Chat, Alphadot and Sentiment Sampler stamp sets by Paper Smooches. The stars are from the Silhouette Online Store, they are the Star Nested cutting files. Have you checked out what the other ladies created for this week’s RetroSketch Challenge yet?

My blogging friend and fellow Cameo fan, Dayna of Sabriolet Designs has some amazing Silhouette projects that you should definitely check out HERE.

RetroSketches #14

I can’t believe it’s already week 14 at the RetroSketches Challenge Blog. This week’s sketch is based on one of Kasia’s fabulous cards! Hop on over to Kasia’s Blog to check out her fantastic creation from last year!

I decided to use my Silhouette Cameo to create a strip of negative cut stars. The Star Nested cutting file is perfect for creating anything with multiple stars in many sizes, quickly and easily. The sentiment is from the very versatile Chit Chat stamp set by Paper Smooches. Hope you’ll join us in this week’s RetroSketches challenge!

PS Sparks Challenge: Picture Perfect

Team 2 is up this week with the very first Picture Perfect Paper Smooches Challenge. We have a fantastic inspiration photo that will be sure to get your creative mojo flowing! I know it sparked some ideas for me. Here is how I interpreted the photo. It was funny but all I kept seeing was the stunning color of the piano and how it reminded me of the ocean. The floor beneath the piano was even the color of sand—in my mind. Then I began seeing the decorative plates hanging on the wall as bubbles in the ocean. So that’s when I grabbed my Surf and Turf and Whirligigs stamp sets by PS. I quickly sketched out an underwater scene and then began stamping away.

I had the idea to make this card into an encouragement card so I could enter it into the Paper Crafts Gallery Idol 2012 Challenge. So I looked through my PS sentiment stamps and saw a few possibilities but settled on “I Look Up to You” from the Zoo Crew stamp set because I wanted the cute little crab at the bottom of the ocean to be praising the sweet little goldfish. Maybe he’s proud of the little goldfish or the little goldfish is feeling discouraged and the cute little crab wants her to know he idolizes her. You can make up your own scenario. I think a card like this would fit many circumstances where you might want to encourage someone in your life.

Wow, that was a long post if you’ve made it this far please go a little further and stop by the other Sparks Designers blogs. Check out the awesome creations they have to share with you today!

RetroSketches #13

The weeks have to stop going by so quickly! It seems like the last RetroSketch post was only a few days ago! Today’s sketch is based on a card I made back in September of last year. You can click HERE to take a peek at it. I followed my original design fairly closely but wanted to use a different color palette this time. Instead of using patterned paper for the horizontal strip I used a piece of vellum. I cut out a section of the card base and then reattached the vellum where the removed section use to be. I like the frosty dimensional look it gives the card.

I recently received my prize from Hero Arts and was itching to use the Playful Flowers and Butterflies and Floral Framelits Die and Stamp Sets! Thanks so much Hero Arts—I’m thoroughly enjoying these fabulous sets!!! I also used the Designer Woodgrain and Envelope Background stamps. The sentiment is from the Everyday Sayings stamp set by Hero Arts as well. I hope you’ll join us this week at RetroSketches! Last week we had some super fantastic submissions!!! Head on over to RetroSketches to see what Arielle, Kasia and Laurie have created this week! While you’re there you can also check out the fabulous ROCKstar and SHOUTouts!

I used the “Get Well Soon” sentiment so that I could submit this card into the Paper Crafts Gallery Idol challenge—the theme is Encouragement. I’m also going to link this up with the fun flower challenge over at the Young Crafter’s Unite Blog. I’ve recently discovered their challenge blog and the Design Team has fantastic samples that are really inspiring! You”ll have to go check them out!!!

Papertrey Ink May Blog Hop Challenge

Another quick post today! I wanted to get this card posted before the challenge deadline over at the Papertrey Ink Blog. I’ll be cutting it close but I think I’ll make it just in time. I used the Borders & Corners Circles stamp set by Papertrey Ink for the sentiment.

Isn’t the inspiration photo gorgeous? I’ll be back tomorrow with a new sketch from RetroSketches.

You Color My World

A quick little post today. Here is another version of the card I designed yesterday. I used the Surf and Turf and the Word Salad stamp sets from Paper Smooches. I used the fish bowl shape I create in my Silhouette Studio software for this card as well. If you want to see the other fish bowl card just scroll down to the post beneath this one. I’ll be back tomorrow with a new sketch from RetroSketches.

I also created this card with the Paper Crafts Gallery Idol Challenge in mind. The theme is Encouragement, so I’ll be popping this one into the Flickr pool along with the others.

Go to Your Happy Place

Hi Everyone! I wanted to play along in the current Paper Smooches because the colors are so fun and make me think of summer. I’m in team 2 so I’ll be linking this up to the challenge gallery. There’s still plenty of time if you want to play along too. You have until Sunday, May 27th at 11:59pm EST.

I used the Get Outta Town stamp set for the sentiment, the cute little gold-fish is from the Surf and Turf set and the thought bubble is from the He Said, She Said set by Paper Smooches. I created the negative fish bowl shape in my Silhouette Studio software. I attached a light blue piece of vellum underneath the bowl to make it appear as though there is water in the fish bowl. Even though this poor little gold-fish can’t take a vacation on dry land, he can sure DREAM about it—right? Where would your ideal HAPPY PLACE be? I have 2 other cards based on this design in the works. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that I’ll find the time to finish them this weekend.

I created this card with the Paper Crafts Gallery Idol Challenge in mind. The theme is Encouragement, so I’ll be popping this one into the Flickr pool today.

The Craft’s Meow May Blog Hop Day 5 of 5

Today is The Craft’s Meow Blog Hop! As promised, I have another card using the Typically Teen stamp set. (Typically Teen is May’s Gift with a $50 purchase from The Craft’s Meow.) Yesterday’s Typically Teen card I designed for a young man and today’s card I designed for a young woman. I really enjoyed using fun girlish colors. I added Stickles and gems to bling it up and make it more festive! Before I started stamping I masked off a diagonal strip in order to give the bold sentiment a crisp clean background. I scored on the top and bottom of the strip to give the white space more definition. Did I already say how much I LOVE this stamp set yesterday? Well—I’ll say it again—I LOVE THIS STAMP SET! :)

All of the FANTASTIC stamp sets that have been previewed these past 5 days are now available for purchase HERE. The illustrators really have created some very cool and beautiful stamps this month!!! I enjoyed using each and every one of them!

Please visit the other Design Team members to see the fantastic creations they have come up with for today! HAPPY HOPPING!!!

The Craft’s Meow May Preview Day 4 of 5

I had so much FUN making these cards!!! I really love the stamp sets they are both versatile and a blast to use! The first card uses the set called Retro Foundations. The backgrounds you could create with this set are endless! The second card uses the stamp set called Typically Teen. I have to say—I LOVE all the new release sets but this one is my FAVORITE! Typically Teen is May’s Gift with a $50 purchase from The Craft’s Meow. I can safely say you won’t regret picking up this set because it can be used in so many ways.

Click HERE to check out all the details and to see what the rest of the TCM Design Team has created! (If you leave a comment you will be eligible to win each stamp set featured in a day from TCM. If there are 2 sets in a day, there will be 2 winners!) Tomorrow is the TCM BLOG HOP!!!  I’ll have another card to share with you using the Typically Teen stamp set! Hint, think PINK!

I’m submitting the second card to the CAS-ual Fridays Punchy Challenge. The focus of this challenge is to use punches or dies. I’ve used a circles punch to create my word window. I also used my We R Memory Keepers Corner Chomper—hmmm is that considered a punch?

I also had the Splatter Technique Challenge over at Moxie Fab in mind when I made the second card. I’ll be adding it to the list today. Paper Crafts Gallery Idol 2012 Challenge is open for entries and the theme is Encouragement. I’ll head on over there and submit the second card in this post.

RetroSketches #12

This is my second post today. Please click HERE for The Craft’s Meow Preview.

Wow this week just flew by!!! Busy, busy, busy! Are you ready for another RetroSketches Challenge? This week we have a super adorable sketch inspired by a card Arielle created. Click HERE to go take a peek at her sweet as can be card! She used a denim patterned paper on her card that I just adore!!!

I went really CAS for this sketch. I LOVED the layered panels and rounded corners so much, that I wanted to accentuate them by keeping everything crisp, clean and graphic. The very cool sentiment is from the Word Salad stamp set by Paper Smooches and the equally cool polka dot circle is from the Whirligigs stamp set also by Paper Smooches. I’ll stamp the inside of the card with a “be yourself” sentiment. If you’re looking for The Craft’s Meow Preview post scroll down to the next post below this.
